z
Directory changer based on aging and frecency
Description
z tracks your most used directories based on 'frecency' (a combination of frequency and recency). After a short learning period, z will take you to the most popular directory that matches all of the regexes given on the command line, in order.
AI Summary
Tracks your most-visited directories and lets you jump to them by typing partial name matches, ranked by frequency and recency.
Capabilities
- + Jump to frequently and recently used directories with partial name matching
- + Tracks directory usage over time using frecency algorithm
- + Supports regex patterns for directory matching
- + Works as a shell function sourced into bash or zsh
Use When

- → User wants to reduce keystrokes for cd commands
- → User needs quick directory switching without remembering full paths
Avoid When
- x User prefers a more feature-rich alternative like zoxide
- x User needs cross-shell sync of directory history
